2024 Australian Development Squad & 2023 Junior World Cup
2024 Australian Development Squad and 2023 Junior World Cup
January 12th, 2024
A huge congratulations to both Cooper Burns and Connar Otterbach who have been selected in the Hockey Australia National Men’s Development Squad for 2024!
The squad consists of 19 players, who are considered the best talent in the country outside of the Kookaburras squad. In the announcement of the Kookaburras squad for 2024, Colin Batch has stated that if required he will select from the Development Squad for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Connar retains his spot in the squad from 2023 with his strong performance for HC Melbourne, while Cooper has been named in the squad for the first time, following on from his performance at the Junior World Cup and with HC Melbourne.
It is not only a great achievement, but a huge opportunity for both players to train with the best in the country and some of the best players in the world at various stages during an Olympic year and continue to improve their hockey.
Nye Roberts & Cooper Burns at the 2023 Junior World Cup
January 12th, 2024
Well done to Nye Roberts and Cooper Burns who have helped the Australian U21 Burras to a 6th place finish at the Junior World Cup.
They finished the tournament with a narrow 2-1 lose to the Dutch to finish in 6th place, and while they would have loved to finish higher up the rankings, it was an incredible tournament – they narrowly lost the quarter final to eventual finalists the French, and playing the Dutch in the 5 v 6 playoff points to the strength of the tournament. The Australians had a travelling entourage in Malaysia and it was great to see some faces familiar to the AHC in the crowd.
Pictured: Nye and Cooper on the ball, and the 4 Victorians in the Australian team – Liam Henderson, Craig Marais, Cooper Burns and Nye Roberts.
Both players had extremely strong tournaments, if you missed any of the games, they are worth catching up to see the boys performances and some great hockey on: https://watch.hockey/
