Playing Numbers
How are Playing Numbers assigned at the Altona Hockey Club?
- There are three ways that player numbers are assigned: 1. Players can put forward their preference for a vacant number to be decided by the sub-committee, 2. Players can be invited to a new number after service to the club, 3. Players can be allocated a number as needed.
- The sub-committee to decide numbers has to involve a minimum of 3 people – the committee must include at least one Board member and one of the Senior Hockey Operations Manager, MPL/R Coach, WPL/R Coach, or the Uniform Manger.
- The numbers will be assigned based on the regular playing grade of the player, the number of games that player has played in Premier League and service to the club – both on-field & off-field service taken into consideration with on-field service rated higher.
- Where possible new numbers to be presented by the previous holder when they are prestigious numbers.
Giving away numbers for players no longer playing
- If there is a transfer to another club, the number is able to be given away – preferably with contact to the player first, lower number is higher priority to contact the player.
- If the player is not registered for that season, confirm intentions with the player, and if having more than one season away, the number is able to be given away.
- For players who have played over 200 games in Premier League, they can choose to nominate a player to give their number to, that is to be approved by the sub-committee.
