The Altona Hockey Club Uniform

The new playing uniform has arrived!

The Altona Hockey Club playing uniform – modelled here by Premier League captains Bronte Kerley & Andrew Scanlon – is designed to be a modern, inclusive uniform for the whole club. The traditional Royal Blue and Gold of the AHC are prominent in the design, with additional features touching on our heritage.

The uniform features the same design across all Men’s & Women’s pieces, meaning that it can be worn interchangeably at the preference of the player.

Thank you all for your patience, it is now available for everyone who pre-ordered, the uniform shop will be open Thursday from 5.30pm – 8pm. Following the Women’s Premier League shirt presentation last week, the Men’s Premier League squad will be holding a shirt presentation on Thursday evening.

Our Premier League sides will be in the new uniform from this weekend, featuring our Premier Partner Werribee Steel, while the rest of the club has the option to wear either kit until the 2025 season.

Thank you to Mark Brown from the Bunurong Land Council for the powerful Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony, Aunty Maggie and Manny from the local Balit Gulyna group, and some of our own club members with Indigenous heritage, Barry Briggs, Shaz Briggs and Naish McDonald, who shared in the Yarning Circle, painted artwork and also led Acknowledgement of Country and Medal Presentations.

Our Premier League Squads all wore the Indigenous playing tops, with Hawthorn HC joining in an acknowledgement of country before each game, and medal ceremony post-game.

On the pitch, our Premier League men overcame a half-time deficit to win 5-1 thanks to four goals from Cooper Burns and one from Connar Otterbach, while Hawthorn HC were too good in WPL, running away in the last quarter to take the game 0-7.

Thank you to the generous donations of members, and the support of Hobsons Bay City Council, as well as the contribution of the Social & Inclusion committee and all of the playing groups for making the day possible.

We hope you enjoyed the day, and the start of our journey as a club to celebrating and recognising the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Introducing…the New AHC Playing Uniform

March 16, 2023

2022 Hookin2Hockey Come & Try Hockey

INTRODUCING…The new Altona Hockey Club Playing Uniform.

Here for the 2023 season, a lot of work has gone into this new kit that will be available for the whole club.

Apart from a brand new design, the biggest change is a move to give players more options in the uniform that you wear. All pieces feature the same design so any cut or piece can be worn by any player, and on the women’s side players now have the choice of Singlet or Short Sleeve Shirt as their playing top. The idea is to eventually offer Men’s Singlets and Women’s shorts as well, there is an expression of interest below for anyone who would like this items.

There is also two colours of Unisex training tops available, these match the Women’s Round and Men’s Round that we regular celebrate during the season, and in addition the Pride Cup tops will also be available to order shortly – these are all optional items for training or warming up.There is no change to the socks.

The uniform is available now for pre-order via our Online Shop, the Hoody and Pants that were introduced last year are also available.

For all Premier League players, because it is an expectation that you wear the uniform, you can also contact Kerrie and organise your order and pay on arrival, for all other players the uniform is optional. There will be one other chance in the middle of the season to order.

Samples of all items and sizes are available to try on at the club uniform shop. We still have stock of the previous uniform available at the uniform shop that will be available at a heavily discounted rate.

Pre-Order: By Friday 24th of March, 2023 at the latest.

To view and order: https://shop.altonahc.org.au/product-category/apparel/

Expectation of Players: Premier League squads to all be playing in the new uniform in 2023. For all other players it is purely optional up until the 2025 season. We will be having both uniforms on pitch in the transition period for all sides apart from Premier League.

Try On Times:

  • Thursday 16th March – 5pm – 8.30pm
  • Tuesday 21st March – 6pm – 8pm
  • Thursday 23rd March – 6pm – 8pm

Celebrating 90 Years of the Altona Hockey Club

15th May 2022

Thank you to everyone who attended our 90th Anniversary Function on Saturday the 30th of April and the Premier League games during the day, including the Ric Purser Cup.

It was a great evening with so many returning members, a special thank you to our panellists, Heather Harley, Kris Doerner, Carmel Brennan, Brian Smith, Ross Schubach, Lisa MacFarlane, Peter Byrne, Morris Burgess, Frank Ranger and host Caleb Scanlon for sharing some incredible stories from the 1950’s right through the decades to today.

There were many highlights, including the stories of the challenges faced by the early women’s teams and how they were overcome to form the club we are today, and the opposition players having to wave down the passing train from the middle of the tracks just to get a ride home when we played at the Pines and the old Williamstown Racecourse.

Pictured are the Life Members who attended the event, each who have contributed so much to the history of our club.

Founded in 1932, the Altona Hockey Club is celebrating its 90th anniversary in 2022.

Connar Otterbach and Cooper Burns Selected for the Burras U21 Australian Squad

28th March, 2022

A huge congratulations to Connar Otterbach and Cooper Burns who have both been selected in the Burras – Australia U21 Men’s – squad for 2022.

Head Coach Jay Stacy announced a 27 athlete squad for the Burras until the July U21 National Championships were the squads will be re-selected, this was narrowed down from 40 athletes initially selected in September 2021.

Both Cooper and Connar have been vying for National Selection over the past couple of years, attending National Junior camps as well as starring at National Championships.

It is fantastic reward for effort for both players from Altona and made all the more special by having each other there, the two have played together all through the junior ranks at both Altona and state level.

It is the first time Altona will have had multiple players in the same Australian U21 side since brothers Darren and Jason Duff in the 1990’s, with Jason going on to represent Australia at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. In more recent times both Danielle Schubach and Andrew Scanlon have represented Australia at U21 level for the Jillaroos and the Burras.

Throughout COVID both Cooper and Connar have continued training, including touring with multiple teams, and while we have missed seeing some of their development at Premier League level for Altona, both are set to take starring roles in the 2022 Men’s Premier League side as they look set for a big season.
