The Board
The Altona Hockey Club, Inc. is administered by a Board of Management of a maximum 10 members.
Each of our board members is responsible for key areas of hockey operations both on and off the field, and currently the AHC Board is supported by an official junior sub-committee, you can view the organisational structure here.
All board members are volunteers, so please support them in their efforts and any contribution you can make in any form is welcome.
If you are interested in helping at board or sub-committee level, or on a casual volunteer basis, please contact a board member or email your details to [email protected].
Peter Dolenc
Secretary
I was somewhat late to the hockey party, picking up my first stick in my late 20’s. I came to the AHC in the early 1990’s and spent 3 very enjoyable years as a player and coach, loving all aspects of what was and continues to be a great family and community club. I returned in 2011 when my eldest son Harry joined the club to further his hockey ambitions. It didn’t take long for his younger brother Mack to follow – AHC being such a welcoming environment for players and supporters at all levels. It was such a warm and satisfying homecoming for Bron and myself.
For over 90 years the commitment of AHC’s volunteer base has underpinned our longevity and success. As a board member I have an opportunity to contribute in some way so that the club can continue to thrive in the future.

Treasurer
Hockey began for me before I could even walk watching my Dad play as a baby. Living in a small town in England the cycle of life was playing cricket and hockey 5 minutes down the road split across Winter and Summer. This eventually led to moving away from my local club and playing for Southgate in the National League Premier Division, as well as Junior England International representative honours.
After initially joining Altona for a season during my gap year to develop my hockey and play Men’s Premier League I kept coming back and eventually moved here and married an Australian in 2011. Being a member of the Board is an opportunity to help out a club that not only gave me so much from a sporting sense but created an opportunity that truly changed the course of my life.

Facility Development & Operations
I loved playing hockey as a kid and still enjoy playing now. It’s a sport that’s hooked me in. I have 3 boys and know the importance that sport can play in personal development.
I grew up in Altona, not far from the hockey club. I have early memories of Cyril Turner line marking the grass on a Saturday morning and hammering in the corner flags; Ted Philipps coaching me in U13 when I first started playing hockey; oversized sticks; junior hockey carnivals which were great fun. A lot has changed in the sport and at the club since then.
In the past I coached junior hockey at the club for many years which I really enjoyed. Coaching is definitely a two-way learning experience. My approach when coaching was to build a connection, set goals and to challenge. I think this is true for sport and in general for progress and to realise or to unlock potential.
I look forward to being involved in the future direction of the club. I hope to hammer in a blue and gold flag and raise it high. There will no doubt be more change but I’m confident there will be progress for the club as well.

Sponsorship
From a hockey family who played on grass, roller and ice, I started playing in the UK as a young junior ‘colt’ at Cheam Hockey Club. After having considerable time away from the game we joined Altona HC for our sons to play and I was enticed back to run on the turf once again, albeit in a more social capacity.
My aim is to bring to the Board the viewpoints from parents and team players, and I look forward to welcoming new members and potential sponsors to support our fantastic club.
Do get in touch with any ideas that help us maintain the positive connections and experiences our members value so highly from being a part of this great sporting community.

Scott Prentice
Volunteer Manager
After playing several sports I begun playing hockey at 14 years old and haven’t looked back since. Hockey is a family affair for me, having played with my brothers Brendan and Jaryd over the years. And let’s not forget about the better ‘Prentice’, Megan, who has never failed to impress me with her achievements in Premier League. I hope that all our members can share this sense of family I experience at Altona Hockey Club.
I am proud to be a member of the Altona Hockey Club, a family-orientated club that truly looks after and supports their members on and off the field. It is this and the want to continue improving our club that has motivated me to join the Board.
As both a player and volunteer for past 15 years, Altona Hockey Club has become a large part of my life. I am passionate about our club and hope to create an even better culture of inclusion and sense of connection for our members across the entire club.
