The A’s girls have been working very hard throughout the preseason in trying conditions. Attendance levels have been strong at all sessions, which have seen the squad take part in a range of fitness activities including; rock climbing, boxing and personal training sessions. There has been a strong focus on fitness given the extended season and the younger squad members have been working hard to be in line for selection for the round one clash against Hawthorn. This work ethic has been well driven by the fitness pace setters of the squad; Dan Schubach and Liv Rog.

The squad have been also been focussing heavily on basic skills with Tracey Drake putting together the “Basics Boot Camp” program throughout the preseason. This has brought about some dramatic improvements across the squad by honing in on some of the fundamentals of hockey in a competitive environment. In recent weeks the focus has been on structure and this has been put to the test in a number of practice matches, with mixed results. While the squad for round one is starting to take shape, the message from coach, Marc Richardson is clear; “It is going to be a long and tough season, and all players need to keep working hard for their chance…”
There is a big opportunity for some new and young players to ply their skills to premier league with the loss of several experienced players from last season. The coaching panel are excited to see who will stand up and perform when the premier league points are up for grabs…
