As President of the Altona Hockey Club, I’m regularly humbled by the generosity of our members and last weekend it happened again.  Over the last couple of weeks we asked members to donate items which could be used to make up hampers for a raffle.  The end products were fantastic – a sincere thank you to Angela for her work in organising these.   On Saturday the raffle was held with tickets being sold throughout the day.  I’m pleased to say that we managed to raise a total of $683, for which we will be donating to Ovarian Cancer Research.  A big thank you to everyone who contributed and congratulations to our raffle winners.

On Saturday we also held a Mother’s Day Lunch to celebrate our Club’s wonderful mums and their contributions to AHC.   At the lunch it was a privilege to listen to Neona Connolly speak about not only Ovarian Cancer research but also her own personal experience with Ovarian Cancer – a very frank, confronting and emotional story and one that I will never forget.

Over the last few weeks there have been several trials for representative teams, with results being posted during the week.  I’m pleased to say that quite a number of our players have been selected in these teams.  Congratulations to Taylah Brennan and Tegan Purser who have made the U21 Women’s Team and Jesse Gatt and Chris Coleman who remain in contention for the U21 Men’s Team, as they are still in the squad which will be finalised by the end of May.  We have also had 13 boys and 9 girls selected in the Western Wildcats teams covering U13, U15 & U17 age groups.  A great effort by everyone, the Club is proud of you all and best of luck in your tournaments.

Finally a reminder about some very important upcoming events.  This weekend our State League 1 Men will be taking part in the Michael McLean Memorial day at Greensborough.  On Wednesday, 6th June we will hold the annual Steph Gracie game against Lowther Hall at Altona.  These are two significant events on our calendar and I encourage as many of our members as possible to support these events through your attendance.
