Umpire Development Policy

In 2012, the Umpire Development Policy was introduced for all of Hockey Victoria’s competitions. The aim of this policy was to increase the number and quality of Umpires officiating games across the season. In excess of 400 Umpires were registered by Clubs under the policy, with 300 of these completing an accreditation for the first time or progressing to the next level of accreditation. One hundred of these Umpires signed up to be rostered by HV, with more games being covered than 2011.

The policy will again be a requirement of Clubs in 2013, with the focus remaining on Umpire Education and building the number of Umpires on the roster.
The following are key elements of the policy in 2013;

1. There will be no change to the ratio of Teams:Club Umpires Required for 2013.

2. All Club Umpires nominated under the policy will need to hold a Current Accreditation & be registered as HV Officials members.

3. The deadline will be brought forward to the Tuesday following Round 6. This will be 5pm, Tuesday 22 May 2013.

4. In 2013, HV Official Membership will cost $20 per Umpire, however this fee will be waived should an Umpire attend Umpire Education (L1 Course/Umpire Briefing) prior to the deadline.
No money will be collected upfront, but invoiced to Clubs following the deadline.
Upcoming “Umpire Education” dates include;

  • Sunday 17 March – Level 1 Umpire Course (Footscray)
  • Saturday 23 March – Level 1 Umpire Course (TBA – Eastern Melbourne)
  • Sunday 24 March – Level 1 Umpire Course (Monash)
  • Sunday 24 March – 2013 Umpire Briefing (Footscray)
  • April TBA – 2013 Umpire Briefing (TBA – Eastern Melbourne)

Further courses/briefings as approved by HV.

5. All HV Officials Members will receive a Membership Card and a $20 Just Hockey voucher which can be spent on any of the following items; HV Umpire Shirt ($30.00), Whistle ($12.50), Rule Book ($7.50) & Cards ($7.50).

If you wish to be rostered by HV onto matches or register for your Club under the Umpire Development Policy, it is important that you complete this registration.

Registration

Registrations will be received by HV on the IMG-STG portal. Click here to register.

Click on the orange “register here” button to get started.
Only personal and further information will be collected at this stage, no payment is required (see below).

Cost

The cost of the HV Officials Membership will be $20.00

However, should an Umpire or Technical Official attend a session of Officials Education (for example an approved Umpire Course, Umpire Briefing, TO Course) prior to Tuesday 22 May – the registration fee will be waived. A full list of Officials Education is available here.

For this reason, there will be no registration fee collected during the initial registration process.

For Umpires who do not attend the education and are therefore required to pay the $20 registration fee;

  • Umpires nominated by their Club as part of the Umpire Development Policy will have their registration fee charged directly to their Club.
  • Any Umpire not aligned with a Club (or not nominated by their Club under the Umpire Development Policy) will be required to pay the $20.00 registration fee via an online portal (from Tuesday 22 May) prior to being eligible to be rostered again or receiving their Membership Card.

2012 Senior Presentation Night

2012 Senior Presentation Night

Thank-you to all involved for making last nights presentation night an extremely memorable night for the AHC.

Particular thanks goes to all of the social committee for organising the event, lead by Kate Holland and Ian Bartlett, Brian Fanning for doing a fantastic job hosting the evening, our Hobson’s Bay Mayor Tony Briffa for his attendance, Burbank for their continued support and attendance, and President David Burns and the Board for outlining their vision for the club in 2013 and giving us all something to work towards in making our club the best it can be.

Congratulations goes out to all of the Best and Fairest winners for a wonderful year on the field, congratulations to the recipients of the various coaches award, who embody the desire to get better and get the most out of themselves on the field, and finally another huge congratulations to the winners of our prestigious off-field awards. The best club person U21, The Tommy Thompson Award, was shared by Taylah Brennan and Patrick Phillips. The Cyril Turner Award, in recognition of outstanding service and time put into the Altona Hockey Club, was also shared, by Stephen MacDonald and Greg Drake. All four winners of the off-field awards were extremely popular choices and deserving winners, and it is fitting that they were shared in the manner that the tireless work that goes into our club is shared amongst our members.
