One of the greatest features of our club is the support that all of our teams, men’s, women’s and juniors alike, receive from our members and spectators.  However, there have been a few instances recently where the support we are famous for has crossed the line and become bad behaviour.  One case in particular, we have had to respond formally to Hockey Victoria, outlining the steps we will be taking to address the situation, and by dealing with and eradicating the recent behaviour immediately, our Club continues to be enjoyable and uphold its friendly, family atmosphere.   This type of behaviour can’t be ignored or allowed, as the consequences with Hockey Victoria will become more severe, our reputation within the hockey community will be damaged and the club will become a less enjoyable place for all members and families involved.

The message to everyone involved at the Altona Hockey Club is fairly simple: Treat everyone involved in the game with respect.  This includes umpires and officials, AHC players and supporters as well as opposition players and supporters.
Never abuse umpires, players or spectators and always display a high level of sportsmanship.
Always display behaviour that will enhance the image and reputation of the AHC and its members.

Hockey Victoria is very serious about adhering to the Code of Behaviour they have established.  Whilst I have communicated The Hockey Victoria Code of Behaviour previously, it can be accessed on the HV website via this link – http://www.hockeyvictoria.org.au/fileadmin/user_upload/MISC/MISC_2/Hockey_Victoria_Codes_of_Behaviour__2012_.pdf.

The Altona Hockey Club also has our own policy relating to Acceptable Behaviour, and this can be accessed via this link – https://www.altonahc.org.au/about-the-ahc/policies/.

As we are now into the second half of the year with a number of our teams having a chance at competing in finals, this is the time when all the positive aspects of our club should be on show.  The responsibility rests with all of us involved with the AHC to display these qualities and look after each other.

Thanks for your time and I look forward to your assistance with improving our club environment.

Go A’s
