After a big loss to Waverley over the weekend, Altona’s Premier League girls were searching for redemption on Wednesday night against an improved Powerhouse outfit at the SNHC.

Altona got off to a cracking start putting huge amounts of pressure on the Powerhouse defence, which was lead by superstar Danielle Schubach.

A slow transfer down back eventually caught the eye of striker Phoebe Rothfield who immediately cut it off and ran into the circle to cause the first penalty corner of the game.

Moments later, the penalty corner was converted by Victorian U18 representative Jess Brennan after a mistimed save from their goalkeeper. Altona were 1-0 up just 5 minutes into play.

The relentless work of U21 Victorian representative Bronte Kerley and Missy Johnson in the centre was not going unnoticed and a direct pass eventually found Dan Schubach, who dodged a few tackles and found Phoebe Rothfield on the spot who slotted it into the backboard making it 2-0.

Powerhouse really kicked into gear and began to put huge amounts of pressure on the Altona defence, unfortunately capitalizing on a penalty corner.

With just minutes left in the first half, some great tackles from Maraeid Crawford and saves from Taylah Brennan kept the score at 2-1 going into half time.

Unfortunately, Powerhouse were running rings around our midfield and defence and eventually caused a handful of corners. Luckily for us, Taz was on key to save them and keep us with a fighting chance.

With just moments to play, a Powerhouse player was left roaming on the top right and with ease she fired it to the bottom left corner making it 2-2.

Luckily we hung on thanks to some beautiful saves from Taylah and our defenders. The final score 2-2, our first draw of the season.

Altona next play Doncaster at Grant Reserve on the 14th June.
