Mens State League 1

550871_10150861760522683_125208345_nAltona had a horror start against Doncaster on Saturday, conceding three goals in the first 15 minutes, which effectively put the contest out of their reach.  Altona looked out of sorts, with basic skill errors letting the Seagulls down. Doncaster, has had a slow start to season 2012, but are an extremely dangerous side, and spent most of the previous season on top of the ladder.  Altona’s defence was obviously tested early by the Doncaster blitz, and despite the score line, full backs Jake Macvean and veteran Mathew Higgins were very good. Co-captain Stevie Campbell was fantastic all match, chasing hard and throwing himself into countless contests, but unfortunately there weren’t too many A’s following his lead.  Midfielder Mick Gallo’s smart rebound goal was the sole highlight for Altona in an otherwise forgettable afternoon out at Donvale.

“We were awful today. There are a number of areas that we need to work on, so the break provided by the long weekend probably couldn’t come at a better time for us” commented Co-Coach Greg Drake.
