Kieran ‘Little Symo’ Symons State League 1 debut

Kieran “Symo” Symons, a key junior represenative player for Altona for many years, makes his State League 1 (SL1) debut on Saturday.

For those that aren’t aware, Kieran’s father, Peter, was a SL1 champion for many years and part of the inaugural 1994 SL1 premiership side. “Symo Senior” was known for his speedy runs down the right wing, always being in the right spot for a cheeky goal, and also known for possessing one of the Greatest Moustaches of the 1980s… He doesn’t look it, but Peter is about 100 years old, yet still scoring goals in the Metro grades for Altona.

Many don’t know that Ray, Kieran’s Grandfather, also played A Grade (what SL1 was known as in the old days) for many years and was also Club President for a number of years. Kieran is the first “father-son” to play SL1 since Nathan “Nate Dog” Smith (part of the massive Smith family; son of Brian; grandson of Bill; nephew of Lisa McFarlane and Sharon Haslam) and his progression through the ranks at Altona is another example of what a fine family club Altona is.

Saturday is a huge day down at the Club, with a big night to follow a full card of matches, so get down there, and cheer on a future superstar of the Club.
