There were tears of sorrow, there were tears of joy but at the end of the day we are all extremely proud of everyone who made it to finals in 2012, read on for a run down of how the weekend played out…..

Women’s Metro 2 North West – Runners Up.

As you all know by now we lost 0-2, but not through lack of trying. The score didn’t reflect the game which was evenly matched, the girls fought hard throughout and never gave in.

Many attempts on goals but to no avail, a few strange decisions late in the 2nd half saw a change in the game, we were unable to counter which resulted in our downfall.

We all would like to thank all spectators: families, friends, club members, work mates, young and old for your wonderful support and encouragement through out the season, not just during the finals.

U17 NW – Premiers 2012

They were in, they were out.  After an extremely tense 24 hours at 4:30pm on Friday afternoon U17NW got the go ahead to take their position against Footscray in the Grand Final.  The boys were pumped and had plenty of support on the sidelines.

The first half saw Altona have the ball down their end on lots of occasions but getting it through the back line of a strong Footscray defence was proving impossible.  Sam played an absolute blinder with a run down the field that left everyone behind but we were still unable to penetrate the goals.  Our third penalty corner saw a strong push out and Dakoda finished it sending the ball flying past everyone into the goals.  At half time Altona were 1 – 0.

Footscray came out firing in the second half and Alex stepped up to the plate deflecting numerous shots at goal.   Both backlines proved to be strong with Footscray and Altona running it up and down the field with no results on goal.  Some excellent passing from the sideline into the D saw Cameron slam our second goal through for the game.  Footscray had their chances but were unable to convert and the boys took out the match 2 – 0.

It was a fantastic end to an awesome season by the boys.  A big thank you to Daniel for persevering with a group of teenagers who weren’t always too keen to listen!!!  Congratulations!!!

U15 PNW – Runners-up 2012

The Under 15 PNW team unfortunately went down 2-1 to St Bernards in Friday’s Grand Final.

Despite playing better than the opposition and having far more scoring opportunities, the boys could not convert until a late goal by Cynan.

A corner after the final whistle gave us a chance to take the game into extra time, but we couldn’t put it away. (The story of the game!)

Well done to the Coaches – Matt & Pat, and all the boys for working together to get to the Grand Final. You should be proud of your efforts.

U13NW (blue) – Runners-up 2012

Unfortunately we don’t have a report for this match, in brief summary the U13NW (blue) were beaten by Brunswick on Friday night 3-2.  For the A’s, Paris Rafferty scored both goals.  Congratulations to players, coaches, team managers and parents on a wonderful season.

U11PNW – Premiers 2012

What a fantastic win by 11PNW on Saturday against Yarra Valley.  Even though it was an early start at 8.30am at the State Hockey Centre, we had quite a bit of support there watching our kids play, what turned out to be a great game.

It was tense for majority of the game, with Coaches (Macca and Heath), Team Manager (Kerrie) and parents alike all feeling the strain.  ½ time and the score was 1 all – into the change rooms we went, icy poles in hand and Macca revved the kids.

We came out firing after ½ time, and eventually won the game 4 – 1.  Goals were scored by Connar Otterbach (1), Cooper Burns (2) and Rowan Cucanic (1) – Rowan’s only goal of the Season and what a game to score in.

Well done and great effort by our boys.   A big thank you to both Macca and Heath for coaching the boys in 2012.
