We are thrilled to announce that for the 2023 season our Women’s Premier League side will be coached by Danielle Schubach with Stephanie Young as Assistant Coach.

A huge thank you to Ben Newell for leading the side for the past four seasons, and coming straight out of the men’s program prior to that. Newelly has been involved or directly coached one of our Premier League sides for almost all of the last decade, a tireless and incredible effort, and is taking a well-deserved break.

Both Dan and Steph’s hockey resume speaks for itself. At the time of her retirement, Steph was the Women’s Premier League games record holder at Altona with 203 games, and is still the leading goalscorer with 104 goals, at an incredible average of a goal better than 1 every 2 games.

Dan surpassed Steph as the current games record holder – many of those games played together – and also has one of the most impressive hockey resumes in Victoria. As a sample of some of her on-field achievements, she was selected in the midfield in the Victorian Vipers All-Star team over their 26 year history, captained the Vipers to win the Australia Hockey League (the pre-cursor to Hockey One) in 2012, was part of the 2017 winning team, as well as represented the Hockeyroos on multiple tours between 2009 and 2013.

The WPL squad has already started their pre-season with optional training sessions Weds nights and are holding a compulsory session for all players this Saturday morning (10th Dec), with all women’s players welcome.

It is a huge year for Premier League in 2023 with a 15-game season and 4 teams being relegated at the end of the season, a huge effort will be required from all players and coaches and we are rapt to have Dan & Steph in charge for the year.
