Volunteering at the AHC

Volunteering is the heart of the Altona Hockey Club and the hockey community. For over 90 years we have been operating as a hockey club and we form a large part of the hockey and Hobson’s Bay communities – this is all thanks to countless hours of work of volunteers through the years.

Kerrie Myyrylainen - Volunteer Altona Hockey Club

There are multiple ways to get involved in the Altona Hockey Club, and it can be an immensely rewarding experience to give back to your local community. Opportunities range from small and defined tasks for any age, through to strategic and leadership positions which can help the club to grow but also provide invaluable experience and opportunities to grow.

Some of the common areas or streams to volunteer in:

  • Coaching
  • Umpiring
  • Team Management
  • Game Day Activities – ball patrol, canteen & bar, tech bench, scoreboard control, BBQ
  • Administration – at both sub-committee and Board level.

Some of our key sub-committees:

  • Juniors – looking after the running and coordination of all of our junior teams, players and coaches.
  • Communications – including website, photography, social media, newsletter.
  • Finance & Fundraising – helping with all financial administration tasks as well as sponsorship and fundraising.
  • Social & Inclusion – the name speaks for itself but ensuring our club culture remains strong.

Interested in finding out more or getting involved?

Contact us at [email protected] or you can also get in touch with any of our Board Members.

Interested in becoming a coach?

We have a proud history of State and even National level coaches being developed at Altona, as well as many of our Premier League coaches being Altona people.

Interested in becoming an umpire or official?

We have officials of all levels, from junior umpires doing their first games, tech officials at Premier League games and National tournaments, through to someone like Tim Sheahan – currently on the International panel of umpires and umpiring FIH Pro-League.
